What are you studying and what do you enjoy about your course?
I am currently in the last semester of my master’s degree specializing in Accounting and Finance.
I have truly enjoyed the course as it has helped me expand my knowledge on the subjects chosen. Also, the course provides a great extent of flexibility in choosing the electives that I am passionate about and become a better expert in those fields of study. Additionally, interacting and meeting with other fellow students from different countries has not only helped me build my connections but also developed new personal and social skills like strong communication and teamwork.
How did you address the challenges of connecting with your fellow peers (in person/online) during COVID?
Initially, when all the face-to-face classes moved online, there was a bit of a struggle in connecting with my fellow peers. However, I started taking additional efforts by being more participative during the zoom workshops and tutorials. Also, the University and the faculty arranged discussion boards for every unit, which helped the students to discuss the study material with one another.
Also, I did not miss out on any virtual event that the University conducted for the business school students. It was another great way to re-connect with other students.
Additionally, being a career ambassador for the Job Smart Edge program, I would conduct online webinars during the orientation week. This helped me interact with my peers and meet new juniors from different countries.
What did you do to help you prepare in general for the recruitment process?
The Business School has offered a range of resources and services which have truly benefited me in the recruitment process. I have used the one-on-one career consultations with the career centre, which helped me explore different pathways in the job market. I have also used numerous services provided by the Careers and Employability Office such as CV and LinkedIn review sessions, mock interviews, and assessment centres. This helped me keep my resume and LinkedIn profile up to date.
Additionally, the Job Smart program helped me develop my employability skills and gain some local work experience, which helped me stand out among other applicants.
What were some highlights of studying in the Business School?
Some of my highlights so far in the Business School:
- Received Business School International scholarship for continued academic excellence.
I was honoured to have received one of the most prestigious scholarships from the University of Sydney for my continued academic excellence. Though 2020 had been challenging for everyone, the University and the Business School faculty continued to recognize students, and this has been one of my biggest highlights at the University.
- Secured a 12-week internship through the Job Smart program amidst COVID.
Secondly, I secured a 12-week internship through the Job Smart program, which helped me build some local work experience and apply the knowledge I had gained in my finance course. This internship not only enhanced my profile but also put me in touch with other industry experts.
- Represented the University at a panel meet with CNBC and News18 sharing my views on university education and blended learning.
Lastly, I was privileged to represent the University of Sydney Business School at a panel meet with CNBC and New18, wherein I got an opportunity to share my views on the University’s education and blended learning with potential students across other countries.
