Business Dalyell Wicked Forum finalists pitch to Salesforce leaders

The winning and runner-up teams of the Business Dalyell Wicked Forum were recently offered the invaluable opportunity to visit the Salesforce headquarters for an office tour and networking session. This followed their participation in the industry innovation challenge within the Wicked Forum, with teams of students pitching their solutions directly to Salesforce representatives over Zoom. Therese Quiogue shared her experience below.

The morning was first spent engaging in conversation with recent university graduates working at Salesforce providing insight into their professional background and their experience with the company culture. It was interesting to note that what was consistently emphasised in discussion was that the requisite to Salesforce talent was not technical expertise or an impressive breadth of experience, but rather, a self-starter mindset and willingness to learn and develop on the job. The animation in their speech conveyed genuine passion and excitement for their roles which was extremely refreshing to witness.

It was then our pleasure to have the Area Vice President of Salesforce, Adrian Towsey, hold a short Q&A for our small group to give a sense of the company’s growth throughout the years as well as provide useful advice for forging our career path. At one point it was amusing to hear from the Vice President that he and his team were too “intimidated” to ask us questions, after we'd delivered our pitches to the Salesforce executive board. We finished up the experience with a morning tea and tour around their open-plan office floors, featuring everything from vending machines dispensing gadgets to meditation and gaming rooms.

This experience was a culmination of a fruitful partnership between the Business Dalyell program and Salesforce who gave Dalyell scholars a chance to collaborate in interdisciplinary teams to solve real-world topical industry problems through an innovative lens. Being in the Dalyell program has been incredibly rewarding due to the plentiful professional development opportunities available ensuring that its students are well equipped to enact disruptive and innovative change in the workforce. It has truly been one of the highlights of my university career to be able to establish a connection and ongoing conversation with a leading organisation such as Salesforce.
