University of Sydney team wins Gold Challenge for 5th Consecutive Year At Beta Alpha Psi Annual Meeting

On August 5 and 6 2021, the executive team of Beta Alpha Psi University of Sydney attended the 2021 Annual Meeting of Beta Alpha Psi centred around the theme of ‘Invest in Your Future’. This event was live streamed from Las Vegas, Nevada.

Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) is the International Honour Organisation for Financial Information Students and Professionals. There are chapters of Beta Alpha Psi in Business Schools around the world, including Australia, New Zealand and the United States.

BAP encourages the study of financial information disciplines of accounting, finance and business information systems, while promoting scholastic achievement and community service.

A Celebration of Beta Alpha Psi University of Sydney’s Achievements

The exciting news and highlight from the 2021 Annual Meeting was the announcement of BAP University of Sydney as a ‘Gold Chapter’ for the 5
th consecutive year, helping our chapter win $2,500 in prize funding.

This is the highest honour a BAP chapter can globally receive and is awarded to only 10 chapters in the world out of a total of over 300 BAP chapters.

This recognition is earned by submitting a video to the KPMG Foundation that highlights the efforts the society has made to create professional development and community service events while fostering a supportive culture for our Business School students.

The key initiatives that distinguished our chapter included our March 2021 Future Leaders Inclusivity Program, that challenged students during a two-day case competition in a diverse team while thinking critically about inclusivity in the workplace.

Other programs featured in the video were:
  • Our annual CAANZ Virtual Meditation Event to help students cope with exam stress
  • Our fortnightly newsletters with words of advice from the Executive team
  • Our NSW State Library Transcription event run in collaboration with the University of Melbourne Chapter of BAP

These initiatives featured in the video showcased how our chapter is proactive in creating accessible opportunities for Business School students to feel connected and upskill themselves, even in the midst of a pandemic.

Insights Gained by our Attendees

The annual meeting was also a learning opportunity for the Executive team of BAP University of Sydney who had the privilege of attending the live-streamed conference. The keynote speaker for the main conference was Kimberley Ellison Taylor, Founder and CEO of KET Solutions LLP. Kimberley encouraged students to think beyond their degree major and tap into their potential to become future leaders. Her motto of ‘Live and, Forget Or’ motivated students to think about the endless possibilities of a business degree.

The theme of investing in our future was also embodied in the other events, which included ‘I Spy A Leader’, ’10 Habits of a Highly Successful Career’ and ‘Developing a Personal Brand’.

Another inspiring and memorable part of the Annual Meeting was the ‘Community Service Day’ segment hosted by the KPMG Foundation. This showcased a video compiling all the efforts made by BAP Chapters globally who give back to the community and featured the NSW State Library Transcription Event run by our chapter in collaboration with University of Melbourne.

The Community Service Day segment also included keynote speeches from an elementary school principal from the United States, the CEO and Founder of the not-for-profit organisation ‘Pack Shack’, and a Director from the Boys and Girls Club of Nevada.

Looking Ahead

BAP University of Sydney is excited about the upcoming semester and are motivated to continue creating meaningful opportunities for students. The success of our chapter would not be possible without the support and recognition of students and faculty, particularly our faculty advisor Janine Coupe, Dean Professor Gregory Whitwell and Professor Suresh Cuganesan at the University of Sydney Business School.
